In less than 10 years mobile applications have continued to grow. This growth is mainly caused by the worldwide introduction of mobile phones (there are over 1 billion smartphones worldwide). Users can take them anywhere, which means it’s very convenient and easy to download and use a mobile app.

Companies looking to tackle the disruption of mobile services must remember that mobile apps must be an integral part of a holistic digital strategy. The Nomad mobile strategy is part of the digital vision of the train: connecting everything. That’s why we chose a project to discover mobile applications and developed a prototype application.

Today we see mobile apps conquer the world. For example, “Angry Birds” has been downloaded 5 times more than “Nintendo DS”. Apps can play a crucial role in digital transformation and are an important factor in digitization: mobile phone breaks!

Nomad embraces the future

When Nomad turned to mobile space, we began to identify areas of future interest for mobile applications and overall business efficiency. The goal was to use design methods to understand how technology can improve mobile computing.

Design thinking is a method for practical and creative solutions. It’s really an innovative and creative way of thinking and a completely different way of solving problems. Starting with human factors, it helps create business value with a man-centered approach to design.

Nomad decided to devote himself to Design Thinking in two phases of a week: initial analysis and deep immersion.

First week phase: compassion, definition and idea

The first week of the first analysis began with user empathy: our internal and external teams. By interviewing them, understanding their work process and pain as they explore their activities, we could then define the application ecosystem, create characters and draw travel maps. To face the observations, we have faced the possibilities and possibilities. At the end of the week, we identified and listed five concrete portfolio opportunities that could become business proposals.

From the five areas of identified portfolio opportunities, we have privileged and selected the one in which mobile technology has had a greater impact, could be implemented in the short / medium term and the most likely return would be. The selected proposal was guided by entry into the deep diving phase.

Week two: exploration, models and tests

The second week, Deep Dive, was further exploring the solutions to the pain points discovered in Phase One. Using service and experiential design, we were able to understand and discuss how some of these pain models and identified can be solved in terms of user experience. The UX design methodology then transformed these models into a user-friendly interface that incorporates brands, designs, usability and functionality.

The last phase – the prototype

The prototype created participated in user test sessions to gather feedback on concept, usability and functionality. The meetings with users were decisive. We were able to analyze their feedback, refine the prototype and make sure it is right for the purpose.

At the end of the second week, we created a working clickable prototype mobile app. We have validated our approach and created a great basis for the development, development and delivery of the true application.

While our engineering teams continued to participate in this groundbreaking project, everyone was thrilled to see the finished prototype. We are proud to make changes and make a significant contribution to railway technology. The changes are important for Nomad. We see our app as a first step towards smart, simple and fun future technology solutions.
